Demographic development, structural factors, staff shortages: the healthcare system in Europe is facing major challenges. At the same time, the digitalization of social life is changing citizens’ expectations of modern care and creating new opportunities for networked, digitally supported medicine. Dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how important it is to switch to shared healthcare quickly. Alternatives to face-to-face medicine had to be established within a very short time.
Many solutions have shown, that digital medicine (e.g. telemedicine, networking, automatic integration and AI-supported use of data) can strengthen healthcare services. The highest level of medical expertise and cross-national cooperation in care must be available in every part of Europe. The ultimate goal is value-based healthcare for all citizens in the EU.
